Join us for a free writing workshop at the Cherrywood Center on Wednesday, October 7th. All writers at all levels are welcome!

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in guided writing exercises using real antique typewriters, provided courtesy of Eagle Eye Typewriters. Student compositions will be showcased on Saturday, October 10th at the Flower Hill Museum in a public event featuring live jazz and typewriter poets!

What we’ll talk about in the workshop

• Creative blocks and how to overcome them

• The power of time constraints and rapid-fire poems

• The music of poetry - techniques and approaches

• Writing exercises for getting unstuck and practicing various techniques

• The practice and history of typewriter poetry

• The basics of operating and maintaining a typewriter

What you need to bring

Just a notebook and a pen or pencil! We will be providing typewriters, paper, chairs and tables. A spanish-language interpreter will also be present.

This is an amazing opportunity not only to get your hands on a vintage typewriter, but to jumpstart your writing practice through collaborative and interactive group exercises. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite work from the session to the showcase on Saturday, October 10th.

The Austin Typewriter Poets Collective is a a group of Texas-based poets armed with antique typewriters and the ability to create extemporaneous poetry. We have been writing on-the-spot poems for strangers both on the street and at private events since 2023.
